I went to this Oyster Bar location after experiencing the one off Dupont Rd on the other side of town. This one is an old time classic in Fort Wayne and focuses more on the history that is all over the walls of this tiny establishment. It reminds me of what an old western saloon would feel like; although I've never actually been to one. The interior is darker, bordering on the dingy side, with a lot of wood accents. I went on a Tuesday night, so there really wasn't much of a wait like at the Dupont Rd location. The food is very good, in particular the steaks, and surprisingly it's namesake the oysters, are also very good; something I would not expect in the middle of the Midwest with no easy way to ship them here. Overall the seafood here is what brings people in and I can completely understand. This particular location I would recommend over the Dupont Rd one, simply for it's ambiance and local history.

Potentially easily overlooked and in a strange and eclectic part of town, the Oyster Bar has great seafood (and lots of choices)! The sitting area is a bit small, but felt cozy. The server was extremely knowledgeable and may have been the best part about our overall experience. It could have been because there weren't many people there at the time but it certainly felt genuine. To top off the experience, I was even able to order a Beamish....now where else can you get that on tap? I highly recommend this place and guarantee it will be memorable and unique.

Amazing!! This quaint little restaurant with 10 tables in the front and a very nice, well stocked bar with a great wine list. Walked in and was asked for my reservation, which I had none. The owner was very accommodating and the food was out of this world. Freshly prepared food, wonderful atmosphere but the interior was a little on the darker side. The outside of this place isn't the fanciest but don't judge a book by its cover. The oyster's were up there with some of the best I have ever had! A stop I will make every time I am in town! Great Experience.

My absolute favorite restaurant in town for upscale cuisine. The Romanoff oysters are delectable. And if you call ahead a day for their sweet cream dessert, you won't be disappointed.

Came with friend and had a relaxing lunch. Started with smoked salmon yum! Then had grilled fish tacos. Done just right. Top off with a glass of wine and what more do you need? Interior is quaint and service is pleasant and good

.Waitress was a little slow. She kept taking forever . Horrible tables. Very wobbly. The waitresses waited till we got comfortable then she came and was like let me put a little something to level the table. : Expensive $$$ . Oh and omg the one thing that got me going crazy was having to walk threw the kitchen in order to get to our seats in the back since we had a child . It was So dangerous with everything being so hot. And the workers kept coming in and out threw the back door with was distracting . Pros : good lamb. Liked the decoration . Made me feel like I was in a pirate ship .

Grew up in New England and go back multiple times a year. This looks and feels like an old NE restaurant - small and 'cozy.' It SHOULD be that way. I believe there are 2 and the one downtown is the one I go to. It's fun to enter through the back cause you have to go through the kitchen. The food is excellent, but YES it's pricey. GOOD SEAFOOD is pricey in New England, so getting quality seafood in INDIANA is not gonna be easy. Well worth it.

Stopped in for lunch, now I go back once a week. The daily specials are especially creative and good. Staff is very friendly, ours was Susan whom makes us feel right at home. Recommend it

I'm on the road all the time and am constantly in search of local gems. Just down the street from The Hilton, I found one! Highly recommended. GREAT food with a staff to match.

Loved the ambiance. Came for the clam chowder reviews. Sat up at the bar and had a couple cocktails and split calamari with hubby. The staff was wonderful. The chowder was excellent and I really liked the calamari as well. I feel like I'm in Maine at a little clam pub. This place is incredible and made our night. Check out the little room in back as well as their giant sunflowers outside the back door.

We went with friends and had a great time, the food was excellent. The restaurant is one of the oldest in Ft Wayne with a lot of charm. It definitely isn't a chain restaurant, which is great. We had excellent service to accompany the excellent food. I had cedar plank fish and it was perfect. Everyone in my group was pleased with their meals.

I have had better, far better. Twice a year, my husband and I visit Fort Wayne to visit families. This trip was my 5th and his...well he's been visiting since he was a child. By now, we have frequented every restaurant on and off Yelp in Fort Wayne. And The Oyster Bar is now officially the worst restaurants, two times in a row. Last year, my husband ordered the escargot and it came out awful: the escargot was rubbery and over cooked while the sauce (some type of cream sauce) was undercooked and we could taste the flour. Eh, we forgave that because maybe, we were being too New York and our taste buds have been spoiled by the plethora of exceptional restaurants. This year, not only has their cooking remained subpar and uninspired, the portion has gone way done and price gone up. We ordered the following dishes: Scallops with spinach: While the scallops were tasty, however there were only four measly scallops that are small-medium sized. And I could count the number of spinach leaves as a side, 10 leaves. Really?! It just looked pathetic on that huge plate. 1/2 and 1/2 of scallops and walleye. While the scallops were delicious again, however the serving size was ridiculous...two pieces of small/medium sized scallops. The walleye was coated in his heavy crust that detracted from the meat of the fish. Again, messily servings of spinach and overall pathetic looking on the plate. 1/2 rack of lamb special. They had a lamb special that was coated in espresso, with onions and mushrooms marinated in some espresso beer or what not. While the concept sounded delicious the execution was poor. The espresso was overwhelming the flavor of the lamb and the whole dish tasted like a chocolaty mess. Also, the serving size was more like 1/4 of a lamb rack (unless the lamb in Fort Wayne is far smaller than the average lamb in America). The whole dish was so bad that I took one bite of the 4 measly pieces of lamb and gave it to the server to pack up so I can give it to my cousin's dog at home. All in all. WE WILL NOT BE BACK. If you want to charge almost $30 bucks for four scallops, that's fine but there better be some exceptional cooking or inspired creativity to back it up. The Oyster Bar does not...it is an old and insipid restaurant resting on its laurels. Citizens of Fort Wayne, you deserve better!!!

Off the charts delicious. You wake up the next morning thinking about the meal you had last night at oyster bar. If you are in Fort Wayne and actually serious about food this is the spot. Although a bit off the beaten path downtown on Calhoun street it's worth taking the time to seek out. Might be a good idea to make reservations as the restaurant is small with somewhat limited seating. Atmosphere is quaint, dark with an open kitchen you may have to literally walk through to get to your table. A bit on the high end from a price perspective, especially if you do it up with cocktails. Classic seafood cuisine here... Tuna, mahi, salmon, various styles of oysters, clams...all the basics and all expertly cooked perfectly. If you are not feeling seafood the particular night you are there I would highly recommend oyster bars smoked baby back ribs (best ribs in Fort Wayne). This restaurant is a Fort Wayne standby that I would highly recommend to anyone living in or visiting the area.

Had a meeting here recently and was duly impressed. I wouldn't recomend for meetings; it's a small restaurant and the small room where we were was behind the kitchen. There was no door to separate us from the kitchen, so it was hard to hear people talking. The staff was also constantly going in and out the backdoor. That said, the Oyster Bar is a Fort Wayne institution. Very close to downtown and within walking distance of the new ballpark. The food was outstanding, as usual. I had the house salad to start, with a nice tart raspberry dressing, followed by a filet mignon medium rare; the steak was cooked to perfection. Mushrooms on the side was sauteed in a light but tasty white wine sauce. Dessert was Reese's peanut butter cheesecake--- adventuresome and delicious.

Outstanding! Each dish is expertly prepared and the service is attentive without being intrusive. Highly recommend! The place is small but it is our first choice for special celebrations.

The Oyster Bar gives you the tight, historic feel of an established urban restaurant near roomy downtown Fort Wayne. Similar to others who entered, I found my presence unalarming to the cooks or waitress. Once I approached them, they asked if I'd like to dine and suggested I take any of the four seat tables. I was one of two mid-afternoon diners, but I could hear the manager occasionally taking reservation calls. The place does have some history and the menu will explore establishment in the late 1800s up to the venue for today. Seeing as I was between major meals, but knew my flight and drive home would eclipse any opportunity for dinner, I decided on two appetizers: raw oysters & sautéed clams & mussels. The oysters were HUGE and were served with crackers, horseradish, cocktail sauce, and a plethora of lemons (see picture). I had hoped for a nice mignonette sauce, but dove in with the provided accouterment. Delicious! My follow-up accompanied by a glass of wine was the steamed mussels & clams (see picture). For $12.95 it seemed like a meager portion at first (about 6 of each), but I reminded myself I was in the midwest and this was an appetizer. The saving grace was the sliced round of bread and butter that followed shortly after. I would have scored the Oyster Bar a solid 4 s, but I had two snafus holding me back. First, all but one fresh oyster had bits of shell in 'em which made shooting and chewing unpleasant. Secondly, as much as I love fresh garlic (and I do), the cook was a little heavy handed when creating my mussels and clams. It was pungent enough for me that I ended up not moping the sauce with bread (as I typically love to do). That being said, service was solid and I would definitely come back to try more hearty dishes!

Well lit and signed, but when I walked in , no real greeting - or host stand -everyone just stared at me for a few moments, including staff - and then went on their ( other business ) Just to make sure I did not miss the host - I walked out, re-reviewed outside, and then came back in. Same response as before .... ( I was dressed in button down shirt and slacks ) And I then walked among the diners , back and forth - very small room!! - still no greeting... After another few mins, one of the folks at the bar asked if I would like to dine, ( Paul?) which I said yes and was seated. Ordered the oyster sampler , sea bass, ahi tuna, Caesar salad, broccoli. Ahi was a bit chewy, Oysters were good. Salad was a bit poor; soggish, room temp, and somewhat bitter-- you can see they were just prior- pre-prepared and not chilled , merely by the bar in a dish closet. Sea bass was pretty tasty w capers.

Great food. Crab legs, oysters, crab cakes and salmon were amazing. Very small establishment but the food makes up for the closeness. This is a must try when in Ft. Wayne! Friggin worth every penny!
(4)Ben B.
The Bloody Mary was great 5 stars The bread was great 5 stars The oysters on the half shell were good 4 stars Crab cakes good 4 stars Shrimp cocktail was large and in charge 4.5 stars The walleye which is "famous" 2 stars The services was great 5 stars But here's the gist, if you want seafood go to Paula's on Main. It's no comparison...and same price point. Because of this we won't be back.

Great food, great place!! I went there on a business trip to Ft. Wayne and will be back next time I'm in town. Great beer selection for beer snobs and the seafood was delicious. Excellent and friendly service. The place is a little off the beaten path, but the restaurant has neighborhood feel and the atmosphere is warm and cozy. Go tonight!!

Who would have thought the best shucked oysters I would ever ever have would be in the heart of Fort Wayne Indiana. Whether it's the black n blue charbroiled, hollandaise broiled beniville, the straight up raw, fried or the oyster stew the Chesapeake bay oysters are phenomenal! My husband and I look forward to thee amazing oysters every Friday. The shucker is the best I've ever had and the owner and waitstaff are amazing as well. So if you are lucky enough to come here you must ... MUST have some oysters and possibly a dirty martini or 2!

I would like to give Oyster Bar a great review, but it's hit or miss. I worked in the industry in my twenties and thirties and know the pitfalls of the terrain and am sympathetic to its plights. On one hand, the intimate ambiance of the establishment can be great. On the other, if the staff gets in the weeds it can spell trouble for the experience. But there isn't much one can do about it. Plan ahead and don't go on busy nights and you will love the experience. If you go and it's packed, the service can suffer. Give it a chance, but try not be upset if service lacks and understand it's part of the business.

Just great food, good friends and wonderful decor. Did I mention the quality service? So I travel here about once a month and have not heard of this place. Met up with one of my fraternity brothers and his lovely bride. Cool little place with a warm, cozy feel to it. Our waitress did a great job explaining the menu for the neophyte. Great concept in some interesting specials but I live a 5 minute walk from the Atlantic. When in Rome, eat cattle! I started with a Cesar salad (yes, I'm traditional and rigid). It was well done with fresh romaine that still had the crunch and a dressing that didn't overpower. For the main course, I went with a fillet and some steamed broccoli. The food was outstanding and we paired with a Cab that my bro picked out. Amazing night with friends and he picked up the tab. Will be back.

I love the Oyster Bar. I'm not a frequent visitor, but have taken out of town guests here. Tonight our group had the worst service i've experienced at any restaurant. Reservation was for 7:30 for 6 people. Only one table was available when 2 of us arrived. Three more showed up but luckily there were 4 barstools available. Finally the last of our party arrived. 30 minutes later (8:30) we were seated! That was ok the conversation and drinks were good. By the time we ordered (9:00) all the specials were gone. Our salads and apps arrived at 9:30, keep in mind this was 2 hours after our reservation. We had plans to meet others later at a local watering hole, but this delay changed those plans. Waaay too long to wait after all the waiting we already had been doing, while still being polite Because of the wait one of the apps was on the house. The entree's came quite a while after the salads, not the usual 15-20 minutes later. FINALLY we paid the check at 10:15 and left. This is unacceptable for a fine dining restaurant with only 10 tables that has been in business since 1881! I more than likely won't return because there are 2 other fine dining establishments closer to home that compete with the OB's menu. My advice....until the kitchen comes up to speed don't waste your time.

This New England gal thinks that the Oyster Bar is Fort Wayne's idea of a high end coastal seafood restaurant. My sea bass tasted REALLY off (and my stomach confirmed it later). However! They're very flexible, friendly, and it's a great vibe. Their calamari dish was tasty and a preparation I had never seen before. Their shrimp cocktail rivals any high end shrimp cocktail.
(3)Abby W.
Absolutely my favorite restaurant. Great service & delicious food. My favorite is the Louisiana BBQ shrimp. It's a little bit of a drive because it's downtown. But it's worth every dime.

Just spent a delightful time at the OB. Best seafood, wine and atmosphere in the Fort.

Another unique place that is a must try in Fort Wayne! The food was excellent. The facility has a lot of character. The staff is very professional. The place is small so it can be crowded. However, it's a must try!!
(5)Rachel S.
As far as I'm concerned this is the best place in FWA. The mussels are awesome. I can't have bell peppers and they had no problem nixing them. The scallops are delicious. The scallops at Chop's are waaaaay over seasoned (the server warned me even), but at Oyster Bar they're delectable and melt in your mouth. They have this awesome option on most entrees that you can half and half choosing 2 entrees. I like to try everything possible. I've never been for lunch, but dinner is great. It's small, so reservations on weekends are recommended. The bathroom is like a broom closet...but who cares when the food is so good! I should go here more often now that I live here and downtown.

I have somewhat mixed feelings about the Oyster Bar each time I go. First off, the atmosphere is five stars - it's intimate, divey, can be a casual experience or a more dressy one, is great for celebrating a special moment, you can sit at the bar if you want, and you get to walk through the kitchen if you sit in the back room, which I always find kinda neat. The attitudes of the staff seem to vary by who is working on what nights. Sometimes the women get a little "clicky" and are too busy enjoying chatting with the girls that have the night off, when they should be checking on their tables... As far as the food, this is where I'm mixed. I've had some absolutely stellar items at Oyster Bar, like the calamari and the fresh caught fish. However, as a bar named Oyster Bar, I haven't been impressed with the oysters, which is a shame. Also, some of the martinis taste a little off. Overall, I'd recommend it, but I was hoping for a little more.
(4)Jeffrey O.
Dined there with friends recently on a very busy Saturday evening. Service was excellent and the food was of high quality. Especially enjoyed the calamari appetizer and mixed tray of oyster preparations. Diver scallops and salmon entrees were especially good. Accommodations are quite cozy but this place is definitely worth your time.

One of only two real restaurants in Ft. Wayne (the other being Club Soda), the Oyster Bar is the real deal. Great for seafood or steaks, this is the only place I've ever had scallops prepared well. Their chefs are inventive and original, a real rarity in this town. Great atmosphere, service, and food. Might not really be a five-star in a bigger town, but for Ft. Wayne it's just wonderful.
(5)Wesley S.
The Oyster Bar serves excellent, freshly prepared food. It has an appealing, but limited menu selection. Service and decor are adequate. Overall the Oyster Bar provides a great dining experience. The menu includes steaks, oysters, fish and other such items, all of which are prepared well by the kitchen. Fish, scallops and oysters are this restaurant's specialty. The entrees are outstanding. They are complemented by a well prepared and presented vegetable. My order was the tuna, which came with Mediterranean style spinach. Salads are unremarkable in composition, but they are all extremely fresh, and made just before the dinner service starts. Bread is fresh. It is made in The Oyster Bar fresh. Soup, especially the clam chowder, is excellent. All soups are prepared from scratch in the kitchen. In general, The Oyster Bar prepares and serves an excellent meal. Prices are on the inexpensive side for the quality of food offered. The Oyster Bar is a bargain. Service is adequate and unremarkable. My waitress was unfriendly, and offered nothing beyond the basic service, but she got the job done. Given the transience of restaurant workers, who knows if she will be there three months from now, when you, the reader, might be going. Service on any one night should not be deciding factor in evaluating this fine restaurant. As for ambiance, The Oyster Bar is, in fact, a bar. A few tables are in the bar area, and patrons can choose to have dinner at them. I have eaten in the bar room, and it really does feel as though one is eating inside a tavern. A small dining room, the equivalent size of eight four-tops, lies behind the kitchen and the bar. You enter this back room by walking directly through the kitchen. To me, this rear dining room feels more suitable for eating dinner, and it is the room we now choose for dinner. Both rooms are windowless and very dark, low lit. Tables and chairs are simple, but tables have white tablecloths and candles. Going to the restrooms from the rear dining room is an experience that is unique to The Oyster Bar. Customers walk directly through a three foot wide aisle in the kitchen, between ovens, prep tables, you name it, in order to get to the bar room where the restrooms are. For the customers' safety, one of the staff has to announce "Customer coming through!" to the kitchen, allowing the kitchen staff to take a few moments to clear the path. Even so, after three martinis, the walk feels perilous. The overall feel of both the bar and the dining room is that of a dive. However, the darkness mitigates that somewhat. The dining experience is good overall. To summarize the decor, it is dark, candle lit, very simple, but adequate for an intimate dinner. Another plus of The Oyster Bar is its proximity to downtown Fort Wayne. Fort Wayne is a lovely walking town and The Oyster Bar is a short walk from Headwaters Park. For those who drive, the restaurant has its own parking lot, but there might be on-street parking as well. Overall, The Oyster Bar is an outstanding restaurant. I recommend The Oyster Bar to those who are looking for a nice dinner near downtown. Ambiance and decor as described above; price is inexpensive for value received; service is inconsistent but within expectations for this class of restaurant; food is fresh and generally outstanding across the board.

Excellent calamari, and the peanut butter pie is awesome

I am European, well Italian and I have lived in New York city before moving to Indiana, so Fort Wayne it's a big adjustment, well The Oyster Bar makes you feel like you are in a big city. Authentic is what I look for and this is it: great place, great food and excellent service. A must go if you are in the Fort.

I took my girlfriend to the Oyster Bar to propose. The food was great, the staff helped me and we're all so excited when she said yes. This is a great place, great food with interesting twists, but not pretentious.
